Alvarenga Tours grew from that experience and one simple belief:

people building a home from abroad deserve someone on the ground helping them protect their interests.

We’ve seen what can go wrong — and we’re here to help you avoid it.

Our Story Started With Our Own Home

When we decided to build our home in El Salvador, we were excited about creating something for our family and our future.

Like many people building from abroad, we placed our trust in people we believed would handle our project properly.

Unfortunately, that trust came at a cost.

We experienced problems with our construction, lost money, and learned firsthand how difficult it can be to recognize problems when you don't have the right information or the right people looking out for your interests.

Eventually, we connected with experienced professionals who helped us understand what had gone wrong and what needed to be corrected.

That experience opened our eyes.

We realized that what happened to us could happen to anyone—especially Salvadorans living abroad who are sending their hard-earned money to El Salvador to build a home.

That's when the purpose behind Alvarenga Tours became clear.

We wanted to create the kind of support we wish we had when we started.

Someone to ask questions.

Someone to help verify information.

Someone to document what is happening.

Someone to stay connected to the project.

And most importantly, someone whose focus is helping the client remain informed.

Why We Do What We Do

A home is more than concrete, steel, blocks, and finishes.

For many of our clients, building in El Salvador represents decades of work, savings, sacrifice, and a dream of returning home.

We take that seriously.

Our mission is to help people building in El Salvador make better-informed decisions, connect with appropriate professionals, maintain greater visibility into their projects, and reduce the risks that can come from managing a major construction investment from another country.

We cannot promise that construction will never have problems.

What we can do is help you avoid going through the process blindly.

That distinction matters to us because we know firsthand what it feels like when things go wrong.

Jim Alvarenga

Co-Founder | On-the-Ground Project Support

Born and raised in El Salvador, Jim brings local knowledge, relationships, and firsthand understanding of how things get done on the ground.

As a co-founder of Alvarenga Tours, Jim works directly with clients, contractors, professionals, and project teams in El Salvador.

His role includes helping maintain communication, visiting projects, documenting progress, coordinating with professionals, and helping clients abroad stay connected to what is happening with their construction.

For Jim, this work is personal.

After experiencing problems during the construction of his own home, he understands why clients need more than promises—they need information, visibility, and someone willing to ask questions.

Rosita Alvarenga

Co-Founder | Client Advocacy & Project Communication

Rosita co-founded Alvarenga Tours after experiencing firsthand the challenges that can arise when building a home in El Salvador.

Her experience as a client shaped one of the company's most important principles: never assume—ask, verify, document, and stay informed.

Rosita focuses on the client side of the Alvarenga Tours experience, helping families understand the process, communicate their expectations, organize important project information, and remain informed as their construction moves forward.

She also helps develop the educational resources Alvarenga Tours provides through interviews and conversations with engineers, contractors, attorneys, electricians, and other professionals in El Salvador.

Her goal is simple:

Help clients ask the questions she wishes she had known to ask when her own construction began.

We Don't Pretend to Know Everything. We Know When to Bring in the Right Professional.

Construction involves specialized knowledge.

That's why Alvarenga Tours believes strongly in working with qualified professionals when a project requires expertise beyond our role.

Depending on the needs of a project, clients may need assistance from:

Our role is not to replace these professionals.
